About Us

The Children’s Book Shop, Greater Boston’s oldest independent children’s bookstore, has been committed to providing our customers with the best in children’s literature since 1977. Our extensive stock (more than 28,000 titles) is carefully hand-selected and includes old favorites as well as the latest releases. We can special order books and have them in our store in usually a week. We also carry greeting cards, CDs, and various book-related plush figures. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff members are happy to assist you in finding the perfect books for the children in your life, from infants to teens.

In 1982, illustrator Trina Schart Hyman created the silhouette of children immersed in books, leaning against the sides of a tree trunk, with overreaching branches signifying the spot as a retreat.
